Joanne Duffy

Born in Western Australia and a local, emerging artist; Joanne’s artistic talents go back to her childhood as a prolific drawer, influenced by her painting mother and creative family; progressing through to the tertiary level with studying Graphic Design at Curtin University. Joanne has continued to develop her style and interest in an expressionist abstract style.

Joanne looks at the exploring and expressing past experience and the effect it has on our character, personality and choices. The endless variety of emotional response to our urban & rural landscapes, as a child and through to adulthood, provides an eclectic platform for producing a diverse and stimulating display of hue, texture and composition. Working predominantly acrylic on canvas, Joanne draws inspiration from the natural environment, seeking to achieve an abstraction of how we relate to a sense of place, time and emotion.

“Growing up in WA’s wheat belt hold so many wonderful memories which are the foundations and source for a lot of my works at present. Picking up the smells, sounds and the Family picnics at Kokerbin Rock, sweeping bush covering in everlastings, road trips up north, all hold such a rich tapestry of emotions and sensations which are wonderful inspirations.”

Joanne’s recent successes have included being shortlisted for the prestigious Broken Hill Outback Open Art Prize, Finalist for the City of South Perth Emerging Artist past three years, winner of the Rockingham Ports Authority Acquisitive Prize 2010 and an invited artist for the Minnawarra Art Award. A strong supporter of charity events, 2011 has seen Joanne’s sales at Artitude, Colosoul Charity Auction, Art for Africa & the Spring Rose Show. Joanne also curates and co-ordinates the annual Art Expo for Newman College.
