Curating
Our aim has been to gather work from a
diverse group of artists. We are
showing some of the best of Australia’s established artists and studio crafts,
as well as a select number of lesser known emerging artists who we believe are
at the early stages of a promising career.
The question we always ask as curators, is
whether we have gained from experiencing any chosen artwork ourselves? We
believe a high level of artistic intent, balanced by an aesthetic sensibility,
are the core components that are essential in any successful work of art. Of
course both of these are open to individual interpretation and we are not
seeking to impose our own aesthetic on others. However we have applied our own
sense of artistic excellence, built through many years of study and practice in
the creative industry, to the selections we have made.
We serve as a conduit for our artists and
as artists ourselves, we realise the need for effective representation of our
work. Our objective is to create an environment that enables a level of intimacy
and positive interaction with the artworks we are showing. We have therefore allowed
each work to occupy its own space, so the observer has a meaningful experience
and is able to appreciate each piece for its individual merits.
Finally, our intention is to maintain a
fresh and evolving selection of work that will surprise and stimulate our
patrons every time they visit the gallery. We hope that all visitors to The
Studio Gallery will have an enriching and memorable experience.
